According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States.

So Farmers National Bank in Canfield, along with its customers, donated more than $8,000 to the American Heart Association (AHA) as part of a community-wide effort.

The funds will go toward cardiovascular research, advocating for more heart-healthy communities and spreading awareness about heart attacks and strokes, according to a Farmers National news release.

According to the CDC, 310,661 women died from heart disease in 2021, representing about 1 in 5 female deaths.

Furthermore, one in 17 women (approximately 5.8%) over the age of 20 has coronary artery disease, the most common heart disease in this country.

Heart disease is an umbrella term for many forms of coronary artery-related disease, including heart attacks, arrhythmias, and heart failure.

Juliana Begala, the bank’s director of marketing who spearheaded the fundraiser, said the money raised through this effort will help save lives in the Valley.

“Every dollar raised in this campaign goes right back into the community to help our neighbors and help them live longer, healthier lives,” she said.
