Heart disease is a devastating threat to women in the United States, claiming the lives of a staggering 314,186 women in 2020 alone, accounting for one in four female deaths.

Local 1487 Women’s Committee recently held its annual “Go Red” luncheon as part of a broader effort to raise awareness about heart disease. At the luncheon, attendees were educated about the risks and warning signs of heart disease. Participants also took part in dance and exercise classes.

of american heart association Almost half of all women report having some type of cardiovascular disease. However, many women are unaware of the risks associated with heart disease and the specific dangers posed by life stages such as pregnancy and menopause.

“We are proud to recognize IAM Local 1487 for ‘Going Red’ for Women’s Heart Health,” said Richie Johnsen, IAM Regional Vice President of Air Transport. “Heart disease claims too many lives each year, especially among women. Through events such as the ‘Go Red’ luncheon, we raise awareness among women and provide them with important knowledge about heart health. I will give it to you. We applaud Local 1487 for continuing to educate and advocate for all women to be aware of the risks and take steps to protect their hearts. ”
