French consumer technology company Withings officially introduces its line of advanced health monitoring devices to the Indian market. Withings pioneered the first connected smart scale and is a leader in developing clinically validated connected health solutions.

The star of Withings’ India launch is the Body Scan smart scale. In addition to measuring your weight, a body scan utilizes multiple sensors to assess body composition indicators such as muscle mass and visceral fat levels. You can also record a 6-lead electrocardiogram to detect potential cardiac arrhythmias and assess neurological health through bioelectrical impedance analysis.

For those who want to track general health trends, Withings offers the Body Smart Scale, which estimates body composition components such as fat and muscle mass.

Wearable technology is also a big focus with Withings’ debut of its ScanWatch2 hybrid smartwatch in India. ScanWatch2 combines smart fitness/sleep tracking with powerful medical-grade sensors. Withings’ entry into the Indian market comes at a time when the cardiovascular health crisis in India has reached alarming levels. Indians develop cardiovascular disease on average 10 years earlier than Westerners, according to a study cited in the press release. In fact, 20% of the world’s deaths from cardiovascular disease occur in India.

At the same time, 70% of urban Indians are classified as obese, ranking the country third in the world in obesity rates.
