Mr. Toku has appointed Michael V. McConnell, MD, MSc, chief health officer. Previously, McConnell served as Director of Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging and Preventive Cardiology at Stanford University and Director of Cardiovascular Health Innovation at Google. He is also a founding member of the American Heart Association’s HealthTech Advisory Group and is the author of the following books: Fight heart diseases like cancer.1
Toki, Inc. specializes in transforming routine eye exams into comprehensive health exams through the development of AI-powered tools. The company’s first commercialized product, BioAge, uses AI to analyze biometric markers in the retina. Toku’s second product, his CLAiR, received breakthrough device designation from the FDA.1
In the company’s news release1, McConnell shared how the company is leveraging imaging and AI technology to better understand potential health risks. “I’m excited to join the Toku leadership team and help advance the early detection and prevention of serious health conditions for people around the world,” he said. Toki CEO Associate Professor Ehsan Vaghefi said the choice to appoint McConnell stemmed in part from his previous work in AI and business skills.In the release1, Vagefi reportedly said: “I have long admired Mike’s research in imaging and prevention at Stanford University and his contributions to Google’s highly cited paper on AI in cardiovascular risk assessment using ocular imaging. Mike combines clinical and research expertise, successful business experience, and a passion for making an impact in the world. We are very fortunate to have him on the Toku team.”
