SGMC Health is proud to announce that we are extending the recertification of our cardiovascular rehabilitation program by the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) for an additional three years. This certification recognizes SGMC Health’s commitment to improving quality of life by continuing to improve standards of care.

Cardiac rehabilitation is an important step for people recovering from coronary heart disease, heart attack, bypass surgery, and many other heart conditions.

According to the American Heart Association, approximately 935,000 Americans have a coronary event each year, and more than 30% will have a second, potentially more fatal coronary event. Cardiac rehabilitation reduces the risk of heart disease recurring through exercise, education, counseling, and a healthy diet.

“Our goal in cardiac rehabilitation is to improve our patients’ exercise tolerance, energy, and overall health. We work to reduce the risk of heart disease recurrence in the future. We strongly encourage our patients to continue with their cardiac rehabilitation program and they will begin to realize the life-changing benefits. We are truly grateful to be able to offer these services to our community.” says Mary Ann Griffith, Patient Care Coordinator.

SGMC Health’s cardiac rehabilitation program includes both inpatient and outpatient treatments that encourage lifestyle modifications. Programs last between 6 and 18 weeks, depending on the patient’s condition and the services covered.

Cardiac rehabilitation is just one part of comprehensive cardiovascular care. SGMC Health has the region’s only open heart program, structural heart and valve center, and cardiac electrophysiology program. For more information, please visit sgmc.org.
