Country music star Colt Ford asks for prayers after heart attack
By Movieguide® Contributor
Country singer and rapper Colt Ford, who suffered a heart attack after performing last week, remains in the ICU but is in stable condition.
“Mr. Ford remains in the ICU and his condition is steadily improving,” his team said in a statement. “At this time, his family has requested privacy and appreciates your continued thoughts and prayers.”
The country star suffered a heart attack on April 5th after performing at the Dierks Bentley Whiskey Row venue in Gilbert, Arizona. He is being treated in the intensive care unit at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.
The heart attack follows a series of medical complications the 54-year-old has faced in recent years. In 2021, Colt was diagnosed with eye cancer and within two weeks began chemotherapy to fight the disease.
Although he returned to performing almost immediately after treatment, many friends and fans were concerned about his health.
“I had a lot of friends asking, ‘Why didn’t you tell me?'” Colt said at the time. “But I thought everyone was dealing with a lot of stress and stuff.”
This diagnosis and treatment changed his outlook on life and helped him realize that there was much more he wanted to accomplish before he left.
“I thought… all the stupid things I’ve done, I could have killed myself so many times, and this is what will save me?” he said. “I know that God will never put you through more than you can handle, but maybe He trusts me more than I realize.”
After beating cancer, the singer was later diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an incurable autoimmune disease that attacks the face, eyes, and throat.
“It didn’t really affect my throat, but it really affected my eyes,” Ford told Taste of Country last May. “[I] I couldn’t control my right eye. ”
“It really impairs vision,” he continued. “I could see perfectly with both eyes, but if I looked at them together, I could see the three of you, blending together like a lava lamp.”
Please keep Ford in your prayers as he continues to recover from his recent heart attack.
