The American Heart Association Social Impact Fund seeks community-led solutions to improve health inequities in under-resourced communities.

NEW YORK, March 25, 2024 – Assistance available to New Yorkers for public health impacts such as food insecurity, housing instability, and financial stress due to business closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Elting Fund recently awarded funding to four organizations in Brooklyn and Queens.

• Brooklyn Packers (BP) is a Black-led, worker-run cooperative whose mission is to ensure low-income and food-insecure community members have access to high-quality food at all times in Brooklyn. It’s about building food sovereignty. BP acts as a conduit between farms to source, pack, and distribute locally grown produce through weekly community-supported agriculture programs.
• Nourish Spot is a Black-owned quick service restaurant serving nutritious salads, smoothies, and soups made with fresh fruit and produce. Recognizing the region’s deep-rooted health issues, this initiative works to help local residents heal through food.
• She Matters is a digital platform that builds understanding and trust between health care professionals and mothers to improve health outcomes for Black women by providing access to community, certified health professionals, education, and cultural resources. is.
• Strong Children Wellness embeds technology-enabled physical health, mental health, and social care services within trusted community-based organizations to treat psychosocially and medically complex children and children in under-resourced communities.
