JACKSON, Tenn. — This year marks the 20th anniversary of Go Red for Women.

Women and men from all over Tennessee came together to commit to women’s heart health and wear red.

For the past 20 years, West Tennesseans have expressed the importance of learning about heart health.

“It’s so important that people realize that one in four women is affected by their heart health. It’s the leading cause of death for women today,” says Women of Impact. said co-chair Marda Wallace.

Women of Impact are community leaders and are elected by their peers.

Twenty women will be chosen to raise money and spread the word about heart health.

“They always give back to the community and this is one way we honor them and they are also champions of the American Heart. And they donate directly to the American Heart Association. We’re also raising money to help,” Wallace said.

The American Heart Association provided education to schools across the state to inform them about heart health and also provided schools with AED machines.

“Whenever we think about people who are on medication or have had any type of heart implant or transplant, American Heart has supported them,” Wallace said.

Funds raised at Thursday night’s “Go Red” event will be donated to the West Tennessee American Heart Association Chapter.

“This year’s Women of Impact has already raised over 55,000, which is a significant amount. We also want to thank the Teens of Impact, who are true leaders and promoters of heart health at local high schools. There’s also impact,” Wallace said.

Kayden Brewer, now a high school senior, has been influenced by the association.

Mr. Brewer is the keynote speaker at the Go Red event.

“Because, until my incident, some of the schools in my county didn’t have AEDs. So they brought in AEDs. And you just have to be ready. Your mind is no joke. That’s what I want to talk about: being prepared and not having to worry about it,” Brewer said.

Guests in attendance were able to enjoy dinner along with a fashion show by 20 impactful women.
