Specialists at Columbia Doctors, in collaboration with cardiologists at Inglewood Health, announced Thursday that they will provide care to patients with advanced heart failure admitted to Inglewood Hospital.

Outpatient care is also provided by two facilities, with Columbia Physicians providing heart failure treatment. This partnership aims to reduce readmissions and improve outcomes for patients with advanced heart failure by expanding access to Bergen County’s world-class programs.

Dr. Joseph De Gregorio, executive director of cardiovascular services at Inglewood Hospital, was thrilled with the announcement.

“One of our goals is to work together to establish a robust remote patient monitoring program to track and effectively manage the treatment of outpatient heart failure patients,” he said. “This collaboration allows our health system to leverage the expertise and resources of the world’s leading heart failure program to strengthen our programs, benefiting some of our most critically ill patients.”

Progressive heart failure is a progressive, debilitating disease that requires strict adherence to treatment and lifestyle changes. It is the leading cause of hospitalization in adults over 65 years of age in the United States, and patients with heart failure are frequently readmitted to the hospital.

Dr. Hilary Cohen, chief medical officer at Englewood Hospital, said the partnership could have an impact.

“The launch of the Inglewood Health and Columbia Doctors Advanced Heart Failure Collaboration exemplifies the dedication of our medical staff and community physicians to advancing cardiac care,” she said. “Through this initiative, our patients will benefit from all of the expertise, research and technology of Columbia’s Heart Failure Program in their own region.”

Dennis Katekis, director of noninvasive cardiology at Englewood Hospital, agreed.

“The advanced heart failure collaboration between Inglewood Health and Columbia Doctors is an important milestone in our efforts to strengthen heart care in our communities,” he said. “We have been at the forefront of advanced cardiac care in northern New Jersey and the surrounding areas.

“Through our collaboration with Columbia Doctors, we continue to strive to provide our patients with the best care possible.”
