An NHS worker from Worcestershire has signed up to run next month’s London Marathon in a bid to raise awareness of the impact cardiovascular disease has on people and save lives as he approaches his 40s.

Local stroke service leader Jane Gaugin will run a marathon on Sunday April 21 to educate over-40s about how to access free blood pressure tests.

High blood pressure can lead to a range of health conditions, including stroke and heart attack.

More than one in four adults in the UK experience elevated blood pressure, while up to 5.4 million over-18s are undiagnosed.

Many NHS community pharmacies across the county are offering free blood pressure tests to people aged 40 and over.

Your pharmacist can also talk to your GP if your blood pressure is higher than normal and give you advice on how to manage your blood pressure.

Jane said she has always been passionate about helping people know how to keep their heart healthy and check if they have high blood pressure.

Furthermore, she added: She said: ‘It’s important to check your blood pressure and if you’re over 40 you can do it for free in just a few minutes at your local pharmacy.

“In many cases, if your blood pressure is high, changing your lifestyle and diet is enough to lower it.

“If you’re suffering from headaches, blurred vision, shortness of breath, or even regular nosebleeds, it could be a sign that your blood pressure is too high.

“If you experience any of these signs, you should seek medical attention.

“Getting a blood pressure test is easy and could save your life.”
