CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Thousands of people are expected to participate in the American Heart Association’s Heart Mini Marathon & Walk, including a family who will tell the remarkable survival story of twin boys .
Levi and Lane’s Legions is just one of hundreds of teams participating in Heart Mini. Both twins were born with complications, so they are raising money for research into congenital heart disease.
“When I was 16 weeks pregnant, the doctor came in and told me that Levi might have what’s called ‘metathaxis,’ which means his stomach and heart are on opposite sides,” said his mother, Paige. Stapleton said. “This child found out a few days before his first birthday that he has idiopathic 2:1 heart block, which means his heart rate is basically half as fast as it should be. is.”
However, both boys are growing quickly. The family recently appeared on “What’s Happening in Health” (Sundays at 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Local 12) to share their health status and Heart’s Mini goals.
“Raise people’s awareness that young children can actually have heart defects and things like that,” said their father, Adam Davis.
By attending events with other families, you will also be celebrating other families’ recovery stories.
“They can meet other people who are going through similar things to what they are going through. And on the day of the mini, we have a community team zone where the whole family can We’re bringing together people to really celebrate what they’ve been through,’ everything they’ve been through,” said Taylor Meyer of the American Heart Association.
The Heart Mini is held on Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day, and the theme is “Heart of Gold.” A perfect fit for the Levi and Lane Davis family.
Approximately 17,000 people are expected to help and raise more than $3 million.
Mr. Stapleton said their sons would be two of many miracles.
“In fact, when I was 23 weeks pregnant, I was told that Levi would not survive in the womb and would die. And if he did die, there was a good chance Lane would die as well. Yes, because the blood flow in his uterus is reversing the umbilical cord. Stapleton said it would be a miracle if Levi survived in utero, and even if he survived in utero, it would be a miracle if he survived the initial open-heart surgery, and now he is a walking miracle. Stated. ”They have both defied all expectations and achieved great results. ”
