CINCINNATI (WKRC) – You may want to consider taking a few breaks throughout the day to get your body moving. Research has revealed what it takes to pass the “entrance exam” test.

This study looks at how much time people sit and how it affects their health. Experts have known for quite some time that it makes a difference to heart health. Now they know the amount.

To find out, researchers at JAMA Network Open surveyed the sitting habits of approximately 500,000 people.

They found that what the president and CEO of the Center for Eliminating Health Disparities said was true.

“A healthy lifestyle includes moderate physical activity,” said Renee Mahaffey Harris.

If people don’t move, they won’t be able to maintain their best condition.

“Sitting is the new smoking, right? So the more we sit and watch TV or interact with devices and become motionless, the more we’re impacting our healthy lifestyles.” ,” Mahaffey-Harris said.

Researchers found that people who had to sit for most of the day at work had a 16 percent higher risk of death from all causes and a 34 percent higher risk of death from cardiovascular disease. This is compared to people who sit for most of the day.

It can be due to physical inactivity or other good habits that physically active people tend to incorporate into their healthy lifestyles, such as yoga.

“Anything that calms your mind. I think people who engage in yoga or other forms of fitness walk more, exercise more, eat better, and improve their lifestyle,” said Dr. Gaurang Gandhi, cardiologist at TriHealth. He said:

Compensating for sitting time can be easy.

“Sometimes it’s just really understanding the simple things we can do without having to join a gym or take a fitness class,” Mahaffey-Harris says.

Getting up from a sitting position and moving around can help, but you should be moving for a total of 15 to 30 minutes per day.

One more note: Previous research has shown that whether you train in the morning or at night, movement throughout the day still makes a difference. Therefore, no one is okay with sitting all day.
