Santo Domingo – A mother is appealing for President Luis Abinader and First Lady Raquel Albaje to come together to perform heart surgery on her young daughter, who suffers from a congenital heart disease and is unable to lead a normal life.
This surgery is not performed in the country, so she and her daughter have to travel to Colombia for the surgery.
Sarah Lorenzo explains that her 5-year-old daughter Ismel has been diagnosed with pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (VSD). This condition prevents blood from passing through the heart and reaching the lungs for oxygen.
She said the surgery cost $42,500, plus pre- and post-operative stays for her and her little girl.
Sarah is a low-income mother who had to quit her job to care for her daughter, but her husband’s income alone is not enough to cover the expenses.
She points out that she has been seeking help from various agencies for some time but has not received any response so far, so she will continue to knock on new doors until she achieves her goal. .
