PARK CITY, Utah — Nationally recognized cardiologist and women’s heart health expert Dr. Annabelle Santos Volgmann will be held at Intermountain Park City Hospital on Wednesday, February 2nd. She will be a featured presenter at the Heart Smart Soirée: A Night Celebrating Women’s Heart Health. 28.

The special Heart Month event will be held at the hospital’s Blair Education Center, 900 Round Valley Drive, Park City, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free, but registration is required.

The event aims to raise awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death in women (more than all cancers combined), but women can also help reduce their risk of heart disease. There are positive things you can do.

According to the American Heart Association:

  • 1 in 3 women die from heart disease
  • Almost 45% of women over the age of 20 have some type of cardiovascular disease.
  • Less than 50% of women who start a pregnancy in the United States have optimal cardiovascular health.
  • Women experience unique life stages, such as pregnancy and menopause, that can put them at increased risk for cardiovascular disease.

Women are invited to wear red and attend this event, which includes live music, a prize draw, a heart-themed photo booth, information tables, free blood pressure tests, and an opportunity for women to print their own artwork. We’ll be serving hearty hors d’oeuvres and mini desserts prepared by Intermountain chefs.

Dr. Volgmann is co-founder and medical director of the Rush Heart Center for Women, which opened in 2003 and was Chicago’s first heart program exclusively for women.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, Dr. Volgmann has dedicated her career to helping women and their families live healthier lives through the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Three physicians from Intermountain Park City Hospital will also speak at the event. Austin Smith, MD, director of emergency medicine; Dr. Michael B. Chen, Chief Obstetrician and Gynecologist; and Amanda Donahue, DO, cardiology.
