Cardiovascular disease claims more lives than all types of cancer combined. Louisiana and Mississippi both rank in the top five states for heart disease mortality. The best way to fight cardiovascular disease is to know your risk factors, such as your family history and lifestyle, and to see a cardiologist regularly for check-ups.
The body’s cardiovascular system includes not only the heart, but arteries and veins throughout the body, including the legs. Symptoms such as leg pain, cramping, swelling, discoloration, ulcers, or tingling in the legs may indicate peripheral vascular disease in the legs. It is important to see a cardiologist for these symptoms.
Cardiovascular disease is more prevalent in people under 60 years of age. If there are no symptoms, people over 45 should see a cardiologist and get tested. Heart disease can develop before symptoms appear, so it’s important to identify your risk factors now and take precautions to reduce your risk.
CIS doctors are experts in the treatment of all types of cardiovascular diseases of the heart and legs. To find a screening near you or make a reservation, visit www.cardio.com.
