The Mysuru branch of the Indian Society of Cardiology conducted a walkathon on Sunday to draw attention to heart problems that exist among women, which go unnoticed in society.
Organizers say the first Friday of February is designated as World Women’s Heart Day, but the campaign will be held throughout the month to draw public attention to the fact that women are more susceptible to heart disease. .
At the rally, women dressed in red carried placards with relevant messages about heart health. Organizers said it was recognized in 2009 that women were just as susceptible to heart disease as men, but they didn’t realize it. Therefore, this initiative was started to raise awareness among the public.
According to CSI Mysuru, such events are held in 42 countries and the World Women’s Heart Day rally was first held in the city in 2018 and has become an annual tradition ever since.
Explaining the rationale behind wearing ethnic costumes, CSI Mysuru said there was a misconception that one cannot walk fast in a sari or any other ethnic costume and he wanted to dispel that notion.
The CSI stressed the importance of moderate activity and said it was essential to bring about behavioral changes and make walking and exercise a regular habit. According to CSI Mysuru, all he needs to do is walk for 30 minutes a day, five times a week. CSI experts say other things to do include monitoring your health through regular health checkups and making sure to check your blood pressure, sugar, and cholesterol.
