We named former Board Chairman Dr. Doug Garr a Distinguished Fellow in recognition of his dedication and leadership during a special time in our history.

The Distinguished Fellow role is a lifetime appointment that honors those who have made exceptional contributions to our mission through volunteerism or support of philanthropy. Dr. Garr will step down from the Board of Directors after seven years in October 2022 and is currently Director of the Natural History Museum and Director of the Alan Turing Institute. During his time as Chair, he guided us through the COVID-19 pandemic, sustaining research and ensuring we were there for people when they needed it most. It is through his leadership that our commitment to life-saving research has never wavered, even during these difficult times.

A key role in shaping and driving our strategy

As Chair, Dr Garr also oversaw the implementation of some of our biggest scientific initiatives, including the £30m Big Beat Challenge and the launch of our Data Science Centre. Passionate about the power of his research, Dr. Garr has used his expertise to support philanthropic causes that raise vital funds. His personal support for our Cardiovascular Catalyst Award has helped drive innovative projects that have a measurable impact on patients.
Through his generous contributions to key initiatives, he played a key role in developing and driving our 2030 strategy.
