We partnered with Panacea Innovation to launch CardioStars, a unique program that equips researchers with the entrepreneurial and business skills to become tomorrow’s scientific innovators.
CardioStars is designed to give scientists and clinicians the tools they need to turn research breakthroughs into innovations that deliver real benefits to heart patients around the world. Fully funded to meet the needs of the cardiovascular research community, this program provides a high-quality, focused introduction to the fundamentals of research translation.
In line with our strategic goal to increase translation of the research we support and benefit patients, we are pleased to partner with Panacea Innovation, a pioneering life sciences and healthcare venture building platform. This partnership will enable funded researchers to join a vibrant community of entrepreneurs, scientists, investors, and service providers, and have access to networking and mentorship opportunities.
Accelerating research translation
We encourage funded researchers at all stages of their careers to apply to CardioStars and develop an entrepreneurial mindset that will help bring cutting-edge science to patients faster. .
The two initiatives offered include:
Action: A four-week program culminating in a one-day bootcamp that provides an introduction to research translation and entrepreneurship for scientists with little or no research translation experience.
Development: In an eight-week program centered around a three-day bootcamp, scientists learn how to translate research ideas into products and services and turn them into successful companies. Participants will develop a business strategy to pitch to Panacea, BHF and external investors.
Business boot camp for researchers
Professor James Leiper, Associate Medical Director, said: “The British Heart Foundation is excited to announce the launch of CardioStars in partnership with Panacea Innovation. This comprehensive program will provide the cardiovascular research community with a crash course in business and entrepreneurship. CardioStars provides guidance on developing business strategies to advance research discoveries and helps bridge the gap between ideas, innovation, and impact.
“By providing a platform for collaboration, mentorship, and networking, CardioStars provides researchers with the skills they need to help their pioneering discoveries benefit patients faster.”
Dr. Ross Thomson, academic cardiologist and program director of CardioStars, said: “I am delighted that the BHF is partnering with Panacea to deliver this ground-breaking programme. “CardioStars will work with everyone working in this field to raise awareness of research translation and provide clinicians and scientists with the tools they need to undertake this important work.”
